Suzie was the lead singer of Australian folk band BANSHEE, renowned for lilting harmonies and quirky arrangements of Irish, English and American folk songs and the modern alt country lineup THE HUMMINGBIRDS. At the invitation of Trevor Lucas (Fairport
Convention), she joined the Goanna band at the height of their fame. Although only briefly with the band, Suzie performed at the Stop the Drop Concert with INXS, Midnight Oil and Redgum. She also sang on the Let the Franklin flow single. Suzie has toured and performed at festivals and gigs through out Australia and the US and has had the honour of having some of Australia’s finest musicians in her bands.
These include:
Ross Hannaford (Daddy Cool), Dave Flett (Redgum, Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band), Matt Green (Jordie Lane, Tracy McNeil), Ron Mahony (The Lonely Boys, Brent Parlane, Leslie Avril), Ed Bates (Mick Thomas, Andy Baylor,Black Sorrows), Stefan Fidok (The Reels), Michael Harris (Duck Musique, Bushwackers), Tony O’Neill (Bushwackers), Roger Corbett (Bushwackers), Hugh McDonald (Redgum).
In 2009, fresh from the mountains of Costa Rica, where she spent two weeks songwriting in the company of award winning Nashville artists MARY GAUTHIER and DARRELL SCOTT, Suzie returned with a bag of songs inspired by this 10, 000 mile adventure…and headed straight into the studio. 19 STEPS, produced by Dave Flett, has been described by Rhythms Magazine, as a masterpiece of sound and was included on the prestigious ‘Best of Australian’ list from Basement Discs.
With a 25 year musical career behind her , the release of 19 STEPS has propelled Suzie back in the limelight. LIVE REVIEW - Lomond Hotel 6th Feb 2011
"Suzie Dickinson's natural and powerful stage presence is the fruit of deep experience as a performer. She delivers her original songs in a convincing way that engages her audience with a troubadour muse that reminds me of MICHELLE SHOCKED, THE WAIFS, MISSY HIGGINS OR RAY DAVIES. Suzie is a gifted songwriter with a story telling style that shines fresh light into familiar spaces in our lives. The songs are wry and bitter, yet warm and re-assuring at the same time. The unusual combination of Suzie’s clarion voice and assured guitar playing with Dave Flett’s inventive bass guitar,
sets the sounds of Suzie’s performance apart from the rest of the pack."
